Hello, referred physician or hospice team member,
I hope this finds you well.
My name is Renee Beechen, and I'm an RN specializing in providing an additional layer of support and care to those patients who may benefit from incorporating cannabis or other entheogens into their end-of-life care plans. I am reaching out to offer my services to your hospice and your patients who may be considering or have been recommended to integrate such options into their care, perhaps by yourself.
My venture, Psychedelic Nurse, aims to create a safe and comfortable environment for individuals experiencing a psychedelic journey or using cannabis for the first time. While I do not source these substances and thus maintain strict adherence to Colorado's current legal guidelines, our services include:
A pre-session consult to assess medical/psychosocial history, uncover prior psychedelic usage and those outcomes, and conduct a relevant physical examination. After this we discuss the day-of session itself: their intended substance, goals, and do an in-depth discussion on how best to prepare for that event (any contraindications or fruitful tapering, diet considerations, mental/emotional/spiritual readiness, etc.).
If the substance of choice is cannabis: I, along with the patient (if possible/desired), visit a dispensary of the patient's choice. There we find a suitable strain and method of ingestion per their preferences, at the dosage(s) recommended by yourself (with input from myself if you desire it), that take into consideration the patient's current diagnosis, drug regimen, hoped-for outcomes or side effect alleviation, and other factors.
Day-of: being present with the patient for the duration of their experience as a medically-trained sitter. Here I non-obtrusively monitor their physical and emotional well-being, and offer any needed assistance to minimize discomfort and maintain a therapeutic set and setting.
Conducting a post-integration session per the standard of care - to help patients process and reflect on their experience, identify insights and growth, and provide support for any emotional or psychological challenges that may arise.
I'd be honored to discuss this further with you. Please feel free to call me at 323-909-2441 or email me at psychedelicnurse@protonmail.com to ask any questions or arrange a time for a meeting or lunch.
Thank you for considering this, and I look forward to the possibility of working together to bridge this gap and support the well-being of your patients.
Yours,
Renee Beechen, RN, MSN
